About OptionKrafter
Who builds OptionKrafter, what the company is, and the one design conviction behind the product: a backtest is only worth having if it discloses exactly how it was computed.
What OptionKrafter is
OptionKrafter is a web application for backtesting options strategies against real historical option chains — end-of-day back to 2008, minute by minute since April 2023 — with a P/L visualizer, a stock screener, watchlists, and paper-trading Krafter Bots around it. Users describe a rule-based strategy in plain English or build it field by field, replay it over years of history, and study the simulated results before risking anything.
It is an educational and analytical platform. It is not a broker — it cannot place, route, or execute real trades — and not an advisor: it never recommends what anyone should trade.
The conviction behind it
Most backtesters assume midpoint fills and hide the assumption. OptionKrafter's engine does the opposite: every option leg fills a disclosed, configurable fraction of the way across the day's closing bid–ask spread, every run reports a realistic figure beside a pure-midpoint optimistic reference, and every run permanently stamps the exact assumptions it used — slippage, commissions, engine revision, data snapshot. The full model is public on the methodology page, and the research blog publishes studies run in the same engine with their parameters stated, so any user can reproduce them in the product.
The company
OptionKrafter is owned and operated by SynapseSkytech LLC, a Texas limited liability company doing business as OptionKrafter. It is built by Aditya Gawale, a software engineer who wanted to test options strategies against real chains — including the unglamorous parts: assignment, spreads that cross thin quotes, and stops that trigger at bad prices — rather than against a model's idea of them.
Market data is provided by Intrinio. Payments are processed by Stripe. Sign-in is through Google.
